AMD Ryzen 5 7600 Desktop Processor Review

At the 2023 International CES, AMD announced their new affordable Zen 4 65 W processors and today we are reviewing AMD Ryzen 5 7600 processor, offering up to 6 cores and 12 threads virtually identical to the Ryzen 5 7600X with TDP changed from 105 W to 65 W, base frequency is lowered to 3.8 GHz, from 4.7 GHz, and maximum Boost has been lowered by 200 MHz, to 5.1 GHz with same cache sizes. Designed using new “Zen 4" architecture offering better performance while still being efficient, the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 processor is targeted as a solution for power efficient multitasking budget PC builds.

Now let’s see what more the new AMD Ryzen 5 7600 desktop processor have for us.

Looks

Being a 65W TDP processor, AMD also includes the Wraith Stealth cooler with the Ryzen 5 7600 processor.

Testing

For testing the performance of the new AMD Ryzen 5 7600 desktop processor, we ran few CPU benchmarks and compared it with AMD Ryzen 5 7600X and AMD Ryzen 5 5600 desktop processor. All the CPUs under test were kept to their stock factory settings/ clock speeds as provided by their manufacturers. No overclocking is applied, as overclocking capability of CPU varies from chip to chip, cooling capabilities and many more factors. We also used same liquid cooling solution for all CPUs and ran all tests on same approx. ambient temperature.

Pros

  • Great Performance
  • Low Power consumption
  • Nice Price
  • New microarchitecture
  • Faster Memory support

Cons

  • Overall system build cost is on high side

Conclusion

AMD Ryzen 5 7600 is decent lower TDP processor (65W TDP) from AMD with "Zen 4" Core Architecture offering slight lower performance than the 7600X processor but also offers approx. 30% lower price difference. But overall, a system build with AMD Ryzen 5 7600, B650 board and DDR5 memory in current times is on high side for budget customers. But I hope, market will soon be offered a new lower chipset, low cost AM5 motherboard for budget builds.

The integrated graphics support from AMD Ryzen 5 7600 processor is a great option for users with basic graphics needs, like office, web browsing, watching video, etc. Overall IGP performance of AMD Ryzen 5 7600 is decent, and plenty for everything except serious gaming needs.

Finally at US $230 price tag approx. Rs.19000, the new AMD Ryzen 5 7600 Zen 4 processors come at lower prices, with lower power consumption, and include a cooler in the box, which further improve the value of the CPU. Also with surprisingly greater overclocking head-room the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 it worthy of our PC TeK Reviews CHOICE Award.
