Cooler Master is one of the top brands when it comes to PC power supplies. And today we are reviewing a Cooler Master PSU from one of their newest V Platinum series product, the Cooler Master V1000 PLATINUM Power Supply.
The V Platinum series promises high-end performance for every type of PC user. Cooler Master have brought together innovation, experimentation, and user feedback to develop their latest high wattage, platinum efficiency power solution. V1000 PLATINUM power supply units offer an 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency certification, full-modular cabling, 100% Japanese capacitors, an operating temperature of 50°C, and a single/multi rail switch.

Though rarely used in power supply units, this special fan bearing can operate safely and reliably in temperatures up to 70°C. Cooler Master has done a great effort on aesthetics of the PSU. With a matte black paint and slight touch of White along with full black flat cables, gives the PSU a premium feel.

Cooler Master V1000 PLATINUM uses a 135mm double ball bearing Delta Fan (AFB1312M) rated at DC12v 0.38A, for all the PSU cooling needs.

Testing
Test system configuration -
Custom made DC Active dummy load PSU tester.
Load Test
To test the PSU on my Active load test, I have manually increased the load in Amps on 12v first rail, 12v second rail, 5v and 3.3v rail to simulate 100%, 80% 50% and 20% load. Since this PSU is having only single 12v rail, so divided the load in half on both 12v loads on my tester.
5V stand-by and -12V supply was left at a constant 0.5amp load throughout the test run.
Maximum theoretical load handling capacity of my tester is somewhat around 1500W, but due to MOSFETs safe operating area (SOA) characteristics and thermal load handling capacity of the heatsinks, this tester can handle Max 1300W. For safety reasons I have also installed a thermal controller which turn OFF the attached PSU if temperature exceeds SOA specifications.
During test the PSU ran smoothly up to 1150W of load, when tried to pull more the PSU turned itself OFF showing the proper working of Overload protection .

Conclusion
Cooler Master V1000 PLATINUM is an excellent designed power supply from inside to outside with good voltage stability and 80 PLUS PLATINUM efficiency. With our Active Load testing, this PSU performed well, and PSU fan was little noticeable under full load too but was very quiet during rest of all test runs. PSU turned itself off with OCP when tried to pull over 1150 watts showing PSU is having all the protections active and working great.
Finally with Full modular design, 80 PLUS Platinum efficiency certification, Single/Multi rail switch and backed by a 10 year warranty makes Cooler Master V1000 PLATINUM the best option for high end gamer pc builder and specialized needs of overclockers; worthy of our PC TeK Reviews EXCELLENCE Award.
